Ubisoft’s CEO reportedly apologises for comments that led to calls for strike action

The CEO of Ubisoft has apologised to staff for comments he made in an email last week, which appeared to blame employees for cuts and delays at the publisher. Kotaku report that Yves Guillemot began a Q&A meeting with an apology for his suggestion that sorting out issues at Ubisoft was the responsibility of lower-level staff, summarised by the phrase “the ball is in your court”. Guillemot had come under fire from Ubisoft staff following his comments, which prompted calls from one French union for Ubisoft Paris staff to strike later this month. Read more

Today at Ubisoft’s E3 showcase, we got a better look at the upcoming Rainbow Six Extraction. This co-op-focused spin-off takes the Rainbow Six Siege characters and has them fight off against mutated alien monsters. It’s out September 16. The next Rainbow Six game is no longer named Quarantine, Ubisoft announced today. Instead, the upcoming co-op shooter is now called Rainbow Six Extraction. Ubisoft CEO apologises to people they didn’t protect

Three hours before tonight’s Ubisoft Forward stream, their latest blast of announcements and trailers, CEO Yves Guillemot issued a public video apology to people hurt by the company’s failure to protect them from abusive employees. This year, accusations of sexual harassment, abuse, and discrimination were made against numerous Ubisoft employees and studios, including several high-ranking people. If Guillemot’s apology video was planned to clear the air so today can just be feel-good marketing, it’s unfortunate that only seven hours prior, a new report came out with allegations of abusive behaviour at Nadeo, the Ubisoft studio who make Trackmania.
