Someone piloted a flight in Microsoft Flight Simulator while sitting on the same flight in real life

Players do the darndest things—especially when they’re also game developers—and this sure is a thing that I feel silly for not seeing from miles off. Rami Ismail of former Vlambeer fame decided to really test out the accuracy of Microsoft Flight Simulator by piloting a flight in game while sitting on the same flight in real life. The future sure has arrived. (more…)

Halo Infinite‘s developers previously expressed disinterest in plopping a hundred Master Chiefs into a last Chief standing mode but a new rumor has cropped up saying they will—and that it’s coming in 2021. 343 Industries are planning an end of year status update on Halo Infinite

Earlier this year, 343 Industries announced that they were delaying Halo Infinite, originally planned as an Xbox Series X launch game, to 2021. They’ve been pretty quiet on Infinite since then, presumably adjusting to what the delay means for the game and the team. Now they say they’re planning an end of year update and hope to be more communicative in upcoming months. (more…)

By Alex Calvin, Monday, 9 November 2020 17:10 GMT Microsoft is apparently speaking to Japanese developers about a potential acquisition. That’s according to Bloomberg, which reports that the Xbox firm has been in discussions with studios big and small in the region. There’s no indication yet about who the platform holder has been speaking to or how these discussions have been going. This would be the latest in a long line of acquisitions that Xbox has made in recent years. Back at E3 2018, Microsoft announced that it had purchased Playground Games, Ninja Theory, Undead Labs and Compulsion, in addition to…

Halo 4 gets a few more days of testing, adds crossplay to Reach

If there’s been one small positive about this year, it’s the reliable rollout of once console-locked Halo games on PC through Halo: The Master Chief Collection. With Halo 4 currently on the launchpad, 343 Industries have chosen to extend the game’s testing (“flighting”) period by another week, with the Insider client now testing crossplay support for Halo Reach. Microsoft are still looking to buy more studios

Microsoft have been on a rampaging buying mid-size game studios in recent years, escalating to the point that they bought chuffing ZeniMax in September. But even buying the studios behind The Elder Scrolls, Doom, Dishonored, Fallout, and so on has not sated their desire for acquisition and expansion. In a recent interview, Xbox head Phil Spencer explained he thinks they still have a few holes in their lineup, a few types of games they’re not yet making internally. And with Xbox Game Pass being a big part of their plans, they really want to be able to do everything. (more…)

Sea Of Thieves devs made a pirate shanty tribute to Van Halen

Eddie Van Halen, song writer and lead guitarist of iconic rock band Van Halen, passed away this week. It’s a bit weird, but you know what? It’s really sweet, too. (more…)

Microsoft Flight Sim has impaled Japan with two massive spires

For every action, there must be an equal and opposite reaction. As such, it is only natural that Microsoft Flight Simulator‘s massive hole in the ground be countered by two spear-like pillars of earth on the other side of the globe. Despite last week’s World Update re-jigging the nation’s terrain, pilots this week discovered these colossal spikes bursting out of the Japanese countryside. (more…)

Yup. That seems about right. After evicting the Queen and erecting a colossal monolith in Melbourne, the unknowable architect behind Microsoft Flight Simulator‘s world gen now appears to have pulled at the very fabric of the Earth, ripping a massive hole out of a field in South America. At least, I very much hope this is a simple computing error – has anyone actually been outside to check lately? (more…)

Rare are being rather hushed on just what their upcoming game Everwild is. So far, pretty much all we know is that it’s about connecting with nature. What if Halo 3’s multiplayer was flooded with rats, though?

343 are finally getting weird with Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and that’s great. But they were never going to hold a candle against the game’s modders, who’ve lately decided what Halo 3 really needs is to turn everyone into a rat. That’s exactly the premise behind Rat Slayer, an upcoming mod that – daft as it is – never dared to consider whether John Halo isn’t already just two-dozen rodents wearing a man-shaped suit of power armour. Now there’s a thought to keep you up at night. (more…)
