The Catch-Up: What Team VG247 played in the holidays

What’s that? Work? It’s January already? Excuse the bleary eyes, and the inability to get up when the alarm goes off. We’re still in Christmas mode. As we bed back in to working life bringing you all the hot video game coverage and all that, we thought we’d take a few moments to scoot around the team (except for Sherif, who is still off, the lucky sod) and let you all know what we’ve been playing over the holidays. What games did you play during the break? Sound off in the comments…! Alex Donaldson, Assistant Editor I have to be…

Wasteland 3’s final expansion Cult of the Holy Detonation is out in October

A nuclear detonation in stasis, a holy war between mutant cults. Guess who’s stuck in the middle? The second and final DLC expansion for Wasteland 3 – Cult of the Holy Detonation – will be released in October. Set deep within the Cheyenne Mountain military complex, here mutant cults worship an “ancient deity” they call the Holy Detonation, which is basically a nuclear explosion held in stasis that could either power Colorado Springs for hundreds of years or level it. Because the warring cults have differing opinions on who should be allowed to honor this god, you will have to…

Wasteland 3’s next DLC stars radiation-worshipping cults

InXile have announced the next expansion for Wasteland 3 will arrive on October 5th, inviting players into a battle between two rival cults. Cult Of The Holy Detonation will take players to a new area in Colorado where some heavily irradiated people are worshiping some sort of nuclear experiment. You’d think people wouldn’t worship something that was poisoning them, but hey ho, that’s their problem… Well, actually this DLC makes it your problem, so uh, good luck with that. Read more

Best of 2020: Wasteland 3, and James’ other GOTY picks

2020 was a good year for Fallout games.Oh ho ho, no, I’m not talking about Fallout 76 retconning its entire storyline to reanimate long-dead characters in what must be one of the biggest gaming u-turns ever. What? No NPCs? Nah, you’re thinking of Fallout 75; there’s always been a dive bar there. Fetch our robot a new butt, please. What do you mean the entire main quest used to be stoically listening to audio logs left behind by the Overseer? She’s right over thereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…What I mean is that making “proper” Fallout games has become a whole genre of its own, and if…

Wasteland 3 The Traitor Quest – How to get the best ending and arrest Liberty Buchanan alive

Just as you’re finding your feet in Colorado’s post-nuclear tundra, Wasteland 3 reaches its compelling conclusion at the end of The Traitor quest. Not only do you have to find a way to defeat the cunning Liberty Buchanan, but decide where you stand on the region’s figurehead – The Patriarch – as well. There are so many different permutations involved in the ending of The Traitor, that it took me about as long to play through them all as a significant chunk of the rest of the game. Although other events from throughout the story come into play, you’re essentially choosing…

Wasteland 3 The Psychopath Quest – How to get Victory Buchanan out alive

In Wasteland 3, while there were multiple interwoven quests involved in dislodging Val from his hiding place, The Psychopath is one long, sprawling story that takes a good while to complete. To get Victory Buchanan back to Ranger HQ in custody, you’ll need a fair few high stats. Before making your way to Aspen at Level 17, I’d recommend having one team member with at least Perception or Kiss Ass 8, Lockpicking 8, Mechanics 8, and Nerd Stuff 8. It’s not required, but you could also use a medic with First Aid 8 too. By this point in the game…

Wasteland 3 Very Hostile Takeover Quest – Side with Charley Knowes or the Monster Army?

While it’s one of the shorter quests you’ll encounter during your time with Wasteland 3, Very Hostile Takeover has real long reaching ramifications for two of the game’s prominent factions. What’s more, you HAVE to do this in a timely manner. If you leave the area and take too long with other quests, the resulting fight will start without you and everyone will be dead. Wasteland 3 Very Hostile Takeover QuestOnce you help out Flab in the Nightmare in the Bizarre quest, the next time you enter the Colorado world map you’ll be hailed by your gangster acquaintance Charley Knowes. He’s…

Wasteland 3 Wolfe’s Hunt Quest – Should you kill or release the escaped synth?

As you complete missions in Wasteland 3, periodically your radio controller Ramirez will alert you to new quest opportunities back at HQ. One of the first of these is the Wolfe’s Hunt quest. Next to the Patriarch statue at HQ, you’ll see Wolfe’s synth-hunting band of mercenaries. He’s tracked a dangerous synth back to Downtown Colorado Springs, but after a “snafu” led to civilian casualties, the hunters were turfed out by Sheriff Daisy. Wolfe is a returning character from Wasteland 2, where he was a recruitable companion – but he’s still not the friendliest. He’s not happy with how things…

The Monster Army residents of Colorado’s premier mall have a good thing going, but nothing lasts forever. As soon as you walk through the door you’re greeted by an explosive pig, and things are only going to get worse from here. If you’re looking for how to enter The Bizarre, that’s part of the Unwelcome Guests Quest – which we have a guide on here. Back in The Bizarre, speak to Simon the Squatch next to the front door, and he’ll tell you about the Monster Army’s problems. He directs you to Flab at the back, up the stairs. Talk…

But to bring him in you’ll first have to deal with the Gippers, a notorious cult The Patriarch only keeps sweet because they supply Colorado Springs with oil. Like many of the main quests in Wasteland 3, The Zealot is a multi-layered story with multiple endings depending on your actions. Here’s how they all turn out.
