Deathloop Delayed To September

Arkane’s Deathloop has been delayed to September 14, the studio announced on Twitter this morning. The game was originally set to release May 21.“We’ll be using this extra time to accomplish our goal: create a fun, stylish, and mind-bending player experience,” the studio wrote. “We apologize for the extended wait and thank you all for your passion and excitement.”In a video attached to the announcement, game director Dinga Bakaba and art director Sebastien Mitton call the delay a “very hard decision” and explain that “we need to do everything we can to ensure the health and safety of everyone at…

While Xbox Game Pass Gets Better, PS Now Gets…Avengers

Outriders came out last week on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It also immediately came to Microsoft’s Game Pass, adding yet another big new game to the subscription service’s already-impressive library. Meanwhile, PS Now users can get excited to play last year’s mediocre Avengers game, and just for a few months. It’s yet another data point that shows Sony needs to do more to make PS Now better. In Sony’s defense, the company has improved PS Now since launching it back in 2014 as a streaming-only platform similar to the more recent Google Stadia. At the…

A History Of Shareware, Demos And Covertapes

Back before YouTube and Twitch and always online DRM, developers needed more effective ways of marketing than just relying on word of mouth. This resulted in shareware, demos and demo discs, free slices of playable content that spawned one of the most interesting phases in the gaming.

SpongeBob Players Discover Filthy Game Discs Make Speedrunning Tricks Easier

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom may be one of the most improbable video games of all time, a licensed project that turned out to be both a great game and a worthwhile challenge for the speedrunning community. But the absurdity doesn’t stop there: SpongeBob speedrunners recently discovered that smudging their Xbox discs could result in much better times, though the tactic may be rendered obsolete in the near future.

PS4-Exclusive Days Gone Coming To PC This Spring

Open world zombie slaughter sim Days Gone will be the latest first-party Sony game to get ported to PC, British GQ reports in a new interview with Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Jim Ryan. The news was later confirmed on Twitter by Days Gone maker Sony Bend Studio. “What about PlayStation games on PC? A whole slate of them is on the way starting with Days Gone this spring,” the magazine writes. Sony began bringing its coveted PS4-exclusives to PC last July with Death Stranding, followed in August by Horizon Zero Dawn. The company announced in an investor call around the…

Crash Bandicoot 4 Comes To PS5, Xbox Series X|S And Switch March 15

The excellent if a bit sadistic Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is about to get two upgrades and hopefully not too much of a downgrade on March 15, when the game launches for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. Activision announced the next-gen and friend releases this morning, along with a PC version coming to Blizzard’s Battle.net later this year. Whose ready for Crash Bandicoot running at 4K, 60 frames-per-second? That’s what Activision and developer Toys for Bob are delivering to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles (upscaled on the Series S, of course), along with…

The Week In Games: Prepare For Bowser’s Fury

People like Mario games, I’ve heard. So it’s good to see Nintendo releasing another one! Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury releases later this week for Switch. I’m very excited about this port. I never owned a WiiU, so I missed out on this Mario game. It always looked like a lot of fun and I was a big fan of Super Mario 3D Land on 3DS, so a bigger, console spin on that style of 3D Mario sounds good to me. And the new Bowser’s Fury bit seems cool too! Beyond Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury,…
