Guild Esports signs women’s Valorant team, Guild X

UK-based organisation Guild Esports has announced the signing of an all-women Valorant team. The new team, Guild X, comprises Vivian Mae Schilling ‘Roxi’ (DE), Yağmur Gündüz ‘Smurfette’ (TUR), Anastasiya Rival’evna ‘Glance’ (RUS), Benfakir Sophia ‘Kim’ (FRA) and team captain Klaudia Beczkiewicz ‘Cinnamon’ (USA). All five players, who previously competed as Project X, have signed one-year contracts with an option to renew for another year. They will receive an annual salary and performance incentives. How did Fnatic qualify for Valorant Champions 2021?

Good news for Fnatic Valorant fans – the team have qualified for the most prestigious tournament of the year: Valorant Champions 2021. The side, which features UK talent Boaster and Mistic, plus coach mini, along with Croation player Doma, Finnish player Derke and Czech player Magnum, plus US coach Anderzz, have had a year of ups and downs so far. Last month, Fnatic failed to qualify for the EMEA Stage 3 Challengers Playoffs, and as a result of this, missed out on Masters LAN in Berlin, which has just concluded. Valorant added to British Esports Student Champs for school and college teams

The British Esports Association has added Valorant to its Student Champs for school and college students in the UK. Riot’s shooter joins existing games in the Student Champs: League of Legends, Overwatch and Rocket League. British Esports said the inclusion of Valorant this year ‘stems from popular demand, and will provide an alternate first-person-shooter (FPS) title for students to compete in’. The Student Champs are for students aged 12 and above, however for Valorant the tournament will be for those aged 16 and above, due to the 16+ PEGI age rating for the game. Women in Games announces Valorant Community Cup featuring UK orgs, missharvey to conduct player interviews at Women in Games Conference

UK-based not-for-profit organisation Women in Games has released details of its upcoming esports tournament – the Valorant Community Cup. This invitational for women players takes place on September 11th and 12th, and will showcase eight European esports teams. It’s ‘designed to build and strengthen the community of competitive gamers’. Teams invited to participate include Chat Banned, fReya, Lux Nova, Project X, Rix.GG Lightning, Tenstar Nova and The Goose House Nova. UK-based team matchmaking service Teams.gg has today announced its expansion into Riot Games’ team shooter Valorant. Teams.gg, founded by three lifelong friends James Duffield, Tom Russell and Stuart Crouchman, uses player survey data and in-game statistics to match users with similar players which their algorithm deems to be the best fit for their playstyle and skill level. Energy drink provider Red Bull will join the Valorants Champions Tour (VCT) EMEA as an official partner. Red Bull will present the ‘most thrilling clutch moments’ to viewers during Challengers Stage 3, the EMEA Playoffs and Last Chance Qualifiers. The energy drink producer has been one of the initial founding partners committing to the Valorant Champions Tour and already supported the First Strike tournament. UK grassroots esports organisation The Goose House has announced a new series of tournaments for females and marginalised genders in Valorant, as well as a separate Beyond Valorant UK and Ireland One Day Open. Firstly, Birds of Prey: Episode One is the new series of Valorant tournaments open to female and marginalised gender players in Europe. This is due to go ahead on July 25th 2021, with 16 teams competing in a best-of-three series for a $1,500 prize pool, and the tournament will be broadcast live at Twitch.tv/TheGooseHouse. Back in March, UK organisation Excel Esports entered the Valorant esports scene, and after failing to reach the VCT Stage 2 Masters LAN in Iceland, changes were made with Excel bringing in former Fnatic player Muhammad ‘Moe40’ Hariff and Ruben ‘Rubino‘ Villarroel Brødreskift from Team Heretics, as well as moving Vincent ‘Happy’ Cervoni Schopenhauer to be the in-game leader. The roster bootcamped in Malta for the VCT Stage 3 Challengers 1 tournament but did not manage to qualify for the event. The world final of Red Bull Campus Clutch, the largest global student Valorant esports competition, will take place offline in Madrid this weekend (July 17th and 18th). The event is the conclusion to the Valorant tournament that has seen over 25,000 participants and 400 events, in search of the world’s best student Valorant team. Last weekend the latest epic.LAN took place – a hybrid event featuring a mix of online elements plus a physical venue. Dom Sacco provides a quick recap of the esports winners. Epic33 took place from July 1st to 4th 2021 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Coventry, and as usual, a number of esports tournaments got underway. There were three main tournaments – in Valorant, CSGO and StarCraft 2 – plus a number of community tournaments in the likes of F1, Fall Guys, Uno, Brawlhalla and more. Excel to open new London HQ close to local rivals Fnatic after securing £17m in funding

UK-based esports organisation Excel Esports will become the new neighbours of local rivals Fnatic after announcing a new HQ in Shoreditch, London, as well as £17m in funding. This new office will open later this summer and serve as an addition to Excel Esports’ Twickenham Stadium training facilities and Berlin-based player training facilities, which will continue to be used by the org. New UK-based esports organisation Tenstar have announced a new path to pro initiative after winning the Valorant UK & Ireland Skirmish last weekend. The Tenstar Accelerated Professional Player Programme (TAP³) aims to ‘usher in the next generation of esports talent’ by scouting, supporting and developing aspiring esports professionals in Valorant, Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite and other games. Valorant’s next update adds a robot and changes just about everything

Valorant Episode 3 Act 1 arrives tonight, and it comes with tweaks to almost all the agents, as well as changes to gun and ability prices that will likely shake up the game’s economy for the foreseeable future. Before we get to that, however, the biggest news is that the new ability-suppressing robot KAY/O is joining the roster. Apex Legends has a cool killer robot, Overwatch has a pretty floaty robot – it was about time Riot’s tactical shooter joined the club. Read more
