‘Interventions are needed’ to improve esports athletes’ quality of sleep and mental health, according to new UK study of student players

It found, unsurprisingly, that stress, sleep problems, burnout and social phobia anxiety may all adversely impact esports players’ mental health. The study – carried out by researchers from the University of Chichester in collaboration with the University of Winchester and King’s College London – surveyed 313 student esports players who play either CSGO, Valorant or Rainbow Six Siege….

New pro player study explores stress and coping in League of Legends, and the idea of using ‘positive stress’ as a motivator to perform

A new piece of research has explored the impact of stress on League of Legends pro players, and the coping strategies they employ to handle them. The report, published by the International Journal of Esports, consists of interviews with 12 Master to Challenger players who earn their main source of income through competing in esports. They described experiencing stressors regarding competition in five main areas: performance expectations, internal evaluation, team issues, audience/social media and environmental constraints. British Army Esports tournament raises almost £2,000 for mental health charity Combat Stress

The Heroes Cup, the British Army’s annual esports competition, has raised £1,857 for veterans’ mental health charity Combat Stress. The competition, which was open to all members of the British Army Esports community, including serving personnel, veterans and civilians, saw participants face off across three different games: CSGO, League Of Legends and Rocket League. After a month of competition, the grand finals were streamed on December 13th 2021.  Team ‘Checkmate’ took home the Rocket League trophy, ‘Carry Potter’ the Counter-Strike trophy and ‘Bot Gap’ the League of Legends trophy.  Continue reading British Army Esports tournament raises almost £2,000 for mental…

CSGO found to be the most stress-relieving shooter, according to University of Leeds study on heart rates and blood pressure

For all its drama, smack-talking and screaming at LANs, Counter-Strike is apparently the most calming esports shooter out there. That’s according to a new study from human biology and psychology researchers at the University of Leeds, which investigated the physiological effects of stress related to gaming. The study by the UK university, commissioned by BetVictor, focused on popular FPS and battle royale games including Apex Legends, CSGO, Call of Duty Warzone and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG). He cast on some of the biggest stages, such as Worlds 2016, before announcing his departure from casting the EU LCS in late 2017. Since then he’s pursued different roles, his most recent being community manager of LEC team Mad Lions.
