F1 Esports Series sets new viewer records again

Organisers behind the 2021 F1 Esports Series presented by Aramco say the tournament has broken viewership and engagement records again. The full series, which ran throughout 2021 and was delivered once again by UK-based esports and gaming company Gfinity, apparently achieved more than 23m views across digital platforms, a year-on-year increase of 103%. For 2021, on the digital and TV front, the F1 Esports Series’ flagship event, the Pro Championship amassed 13.8m views, representing a 47% increase from 2020. Amazon University Esports reports record numbers in UK/Ireland Winter 2021 Season, with more students and societies participating

Record numbers of university students took part in the Winter 2021 season of Amazon University Esports in the UK and Ireland, which is run by NUEL and GGTech. More than 1,150 teams of students from 105 universities around the UK and Ireland competed weekly against each other in a range of esports games, including League of Legends, Valorant, CSGO and Overwatch. That’s up from 900 teams the year prior, with signups for the Valorant tournament more than doubling year-on-year. League of Legends subreddit ranked second most popular gaming page on Reddit in 2021

The League of Legends subreddit has been named the second most popular gaming subreddit this year, according to new data from official Reddit Recap 2021 data. The r/leagueoflegends LoL subreddit was pipped to the post by r/genshinimpact, which took the number one spot, while r/gaming, r/rpclipsgta and r/ffxiv were the third, fourth and fifth most popular gaming subreddits this year. The most upvoted posts in the LoL subreddit were the Worlds prediction tournament and AOC’s Baron snipe (see the top five gaming posts below). League of Legends players may not be able to hide their match history after all: New private profile option ‘not intended’ to hit PBE and may be removed soon – sources

A new feature in League of Legends was added to the public beta environment (PBE) the other day which drew a mixed response from the community. The ‘Make My Profile Private’ option was added to PBE v11.23. When checked, it’d allow players to hide their rank, match history and gameplay stats from other players, though the summoner name, icon and level would remain public. However, Esports News UK understands this was not intended to go live on the PBE server just yet, and sources have said it will be removed soon. They’re memed about (okay boomer), aren’t always thought of as gamers, and younger people are often called boomers as an insult, but it turns out more baby boomers are playing games than you might think. New data from analyst Newzoo has found that 42% of baby boomers are gamers. That’s according to its gamer consumer insights research as a weighted average across 20 different markets, tracking people who have played games on a PC, console or mobile device in the last six months. Rix.gg reveals Valorant Huntress Trials player rank data: ‘Are female and marginalised gender players good enough to become pro gamers? The answer is simple – yes they are’

Rix.GG, UK esports organisation Rix.GG has released player rank distribution data from the Huntress Trials, a female and marginalised gender Valorant tournament. This data, taken from all 83 players signed up to participate in the April tournament (including subs), shows that almost half of participating players had an in-game rank of either Immortal or Radiant – the highest ranks in the game. 44% of players in the Huntress Trials April tournament were Immortal during April of the current act, while 1.2% of players were Radiant.
