Staffordshire University has made a number of senior leadership changes within its games and esports departments. Dr Bobbie Fletcher has left after almost three decades at the university. She has been instrumental in games education at Staffs and within the UK, and is an experienced head of department having held various games and technology leadership roles at the university. Most recently her title was head of department in games and visual effects and associate professor in the School of Digital, Technologies and Arts. Four years ago this month, Staffordshire University announced it had become the first UK university to offer a degree in esports. The course got underway in September 2018 and now its first batch of students are about to graduate – but not all of them are happy. Some have aired their grievances around the quality of course content, management and esports knowledge of certain lecturers, while others have taken a more positive outlook and spoken of the course’s benefits. London is set to host a new three-day esports festival known as Stack Fest, which will take place at the Here East complex in September 2021. Stack Fest will encompass three streams across three days. Day 1 (September 9th) whill host ‘Esports Ambition’, designed for those working within the esports and games industry and B2B markets. Talent Aspiration (September 10th), led by Education Partner Staffordshire University London, is for those who want to build a career from their passion for games.
