Matthew “Mizkif” Rinaudo, the embattled Twitch streamer who was suspended from gaming organization One True King (OTK) last September amid allegations that he helped cover up an alleged sexual assault, has apologized for the “insensitive” and “tone-deaf” behavior he displayed in a broadcast from early October, shortly after his suspension. The apology follows his reinstatement in OTK, which lifted the suspension last week. Mizkif promised he would “be better and learn from [the] situation,” especially regarding serious topics of sexual assault and harassment, apologizing specifically to people who have experienced them.
First Amazon-owned Twitch was ravaged by a major gambling scandal. Then it revealed a new, worse revenue split for creators because it had to charge itself too much for servers. Next Bloomberg reported that the platform has a major problem when it comes to potential predators using it to target children. And now Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), who’s being investigated for human trafficking and allegedly having sex with a minor, has announced his plan to use the platform to spread his racist dog whistles. “Is it Friday yet?”asked someone at Twitch, probably.
As if Twitch wasn’t in the news enough already, the platform is again making new headlines, following yesterday’s successful campaign by top broadcasters to ban gambling from the livestreaming service. However, instead of money problems, we’re dealing with issues of sexual assault and harassment, as personalities like Maya and Mizkif have been accused of encouraging the covering up of an abuse victim’s traumatic experience. Now, Mizkif is facing repercussions.
