Competitive gaming body Esports Scotland has partnered with Dundee and Angus College as the region looks to become Scotland’s home of esports. Simon Hewitt, principal of Dundee and Angus College (pictured left) and James Hood, founder and CEO of Esports Scotland (right), marked the partnership on Friday within a newly branded esports classroom, featuring art from competitive games Splatoon, CSGO and League of Legends (Vi) and Valorant (Viper). The Scottish Government’s £1.3m computing in schools pledge can lift esports in the country

The Scottish Government has just committed £1.3m for computing in schools. While some have criticised this move as being a paltry amount per school, never underestimate an inspired youngster with greater access to something they love, argues Esports News UK editor Dom Sacco Schools in Scotland can now bid for grants of up to £3,000 to purchase additional computing science equipment, devices, software or teaching resources. “He will be forever missed” – tributes paid to Scottish Unreal Tournament legend Paul ‘astz’ McGarrity

Paul ‘astz’ McGarrity, one of the UK’s top original Unreal Tournament (UT) pro players, has sadly passed away. He played UT 2004 competitively and also Quake Live for the likes of Dignitas back in the day. Paul also previously provided consultancy around gameplay and game mechanics in FPS (first person shooter) games. He was also a product manager for Play2Improve and its FPS Trainer product. Scottish Valorant player Zander ‘Avexic’ Fraser has been let go from his esports organisation after being accused of sexual assault and grooming minors. The 18-year-old was IGL (in-game leader) for Scottish organisation Skelp, who have this morning published a statement on the matter. “Avexic no longer represents Skelp in any capacity,” Skelp said in this Twitlonger post. “We stand for being an open, welcoming and safe organisation and will continue to do that moving forward. Scotland’s long-running gaming PC builder Utopia Computers enters esports with Skelp and Kingston partnership

Utopia Computers, a Scotland-based gaming PC builder founded in 1993, has made its entry into esports after sponsoring Scottish esports organisation Skelp. Skelp, who were established last year, have today announced their partnership with Utopia Computers and also Kingston Fury in time for Season 4 of the Scottish Esports League (SEL4). These live finals will take place in Dundee from November 18th to 21st. In Skelp’s biggest sponsorship deal to date, both Utopia Computers and Kingston Fury will appear on the front and back of the Scottish esports team’s new away shirt. Scottish Esports Hub secures funding

Scottish Esports Hub (SEH) has been awarded £5,000 of funding through Firstport’s Start It Award, in conjunction with the Social Entrepreneurs Fund and the Scottish Government. The award, which is designed to support social entrepreneurs in Scotland, is the biggest step SEH has taken in its two-year journey to launch. With this funding, SEH says everything it’s planned for Scottish esports is ‘now within reach’.
