By Alex Calvin, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 19:35 GMT New content is dropping with a bang! Our latest look at the upcoming Apex Legends Season 8 is, well, pretty chaotic. The 1980s-styled trailer for the new content – dubbed Mayhem – showcases the new playable character entering the fray, Fuse, whose whole thing seems to be that he’s Australian, a bit mental, and really into explosions. Like, he’s basically Apex Legends’ version of Junkrat, right? Oh and – spoilers – but the trailer ends up with him straight up bottling Mirage, which I can get behind to be honest because Mirage is…

Behold, environment artists turn blocky levels into beauty

All of game development is magical, truly, but there is a very special kind of excitement when environment artists unveil their work. A senior game designer over at Respawn Entertainment has done just that, showing off what some Medal Of Honor: Above And Beyond levels looked like before and after she turned them over to environment artists. It is, without exaggeration, wonderful. (more…)

EA’s Respawn working on new IP following Jedi: Fallen Order success

By Alex Calvin, Tuesday, 5 January 2021 12:05 GMT This would be the developer’s second property.EA’s Respawn studio is apparently working on a brand new IP.That’s according to a now-deleted job ad on the developer’s website – spotted by VGC – in which the company was hiring for a “generalist software engineer” for its “new IP incubation team.” The post didn’t give much about this new project away, aside from a reference to “new, practical technologies to enable ‘adventuring forever’,” whatever the hell that means. Sure sounds like it will be a service-based project. This would be the second intellectual property…

Apex Legends glitch lets you launch vehicles across the map

Deals deals deals! Just kidding – I interrupt your regularly scheduled Black Friday posts to bring you some delightful Apex Legends japes. Today in “what daft thing has Imogen done in a multiplayer shooter now”, I had a go at replicating a glitch that throws Apex’s new vehicles across the map. Actually, “launch” is probably a better word to use than “throw”, because pulling off the stunt jetts you off into the sky like Gnome Chompski strapped to a rocket. (more…)

The first Titanfall arrives on Steam, utterly broken

When you’re dropping heavy machinery from orbit, a few dings and bangs are to be expected. Unfortunately, Titanfall‘s long-overdue arrival on Steam left it more than a little smashed up. Early reports from the mech battlefields suggest the 2014 game is pretty much unplayable, locking its fascinating experimental multiplayer campaign behind server issues and broken software. (more…)

In an AMA event on Reddit, game director Chad Grenier replied to someone accusing the studio of being “extremely slow” with new updates for the free-to-play battle royale title.“We also refuse to crunch the team, so we’ll probably be slower at making content than if we worked 15 hour days but that’s just not something…

Apex Legends reduces battle pass grind… again

Apex Legends ‘ seventh season added in lovely things like a new map and character. However, it also brought about some rather unwelcome changes to the game’s battle pass, making it superbly grindy to level up. Respawn Entertainment made it so the XP required to gain a level was substantially higher than previous seasons. After a lot of backlash, they recognised the issue and made attempts to improve it last week. It still wasn’t quite enough, though, and now they’ve made further changes to lessen the grind – with even more on the way next week. (more…)
