Pro FIFA players are complaining about being made to play on 50-inch TVs at the ePremier League finals in London

One of the UK’s first big-name esports LANs since the pandemic is taking place live in London this weekend, but some of the participants have taken to Twitter to complain. Pro FIFA players including Excel Esports’ Huge Gorilla and Tom Leese (both representing Spurs at the ePremier League) and Tom Stokes of Hashtag United (representing Watford) have complained about being made to play on 50-inch TVs in the ePremier League tournament. A new piece of research has explored the impact of stress on League of Legends pro players, and the coping strategies they employ to handle them. The report, published by the International Journal of Esports, consists of interviews with 12 Master to Challenger players who earn their main source of income through competing in esports. They described experiencing stressors regarding competition in five main areas: performance expectations, internal evaluation, team issues, audience/social media and environmental constraints. UK-based esports organisation Excel Esports has signed Slovenian League of Legends support player Mihael ‘Mikyx’ Mehle to its LEC team. Mikyx is an experienced player who achieved solid success with G2 in recent years, having won MSI in 2019, reached the finals of Worlds 2019 and won several LEC/EU LCS seasons. Prior to that, he played with the likes of Misfits, Splyce and Fnatic. Mikyx replaces Dutch support player Henk ‘Advienne’ Reijenga, who was promoted from Excel’s academy team to the LEC first team last summer, along with jungler Mark ‘Markoon’ van Woensel. “He will be forever missed” – tributes paid to Scottish Unreal Tournament legend Paul ‘astz’ McGarrity

Paul ‘astz’ McGarrity, one of the UK’s top original Unreal Tournament (UT) pro players, has sadly passed away. He played UT 2004 competitively and also Quake Live for the likes of Dignitas back in the day. Paul also previously provided consultancy around gameplay and game mechanics in FPS (first person shooter) games. He was also a product manager for Play2Improve and its FPS Trainer product. UK Rainbow Six Siege player Reece ‘ASTRO’ Lambert has announced he is taking a break from competitive play after a recent diagnosis. As reported by Siege.gg, ASTRO (not to be confused with Brazilian player Leonardo ‘Astro’ Luis) posted an update on Twitter sharing the news that he has lymphoma, a type of cancer. He said he will be taking a break from esports to focus on his treatments.
