Playdate first impressions – Quirky on the outside, not so much on the inside

Panic’s curious little console is certainly charming, but is that enough to entertain an old crank like me? I’m not sure I’ve experienced such a quirky device since my days playing on a Barcode Battler in a small caravan at Butlins in the 90s. Playdate, a much-smaller-than-I-expected custard yellow handheld games device gained quite a following after its reveal. It’s easy to see why. It’s cute, it’s novel, it has a modern sleekness with a retro vibe, some top indie talent are making games for it, and it was the cover star of UK games media print press darling, EDGE….

Playdate review: a handheld indie curio that goes hand in hand with the spirit of PC

On paper, Panic’s Playdate doesn’t have a lot to do with PC. It’s a standalone handheld console that fits into the palm of your hand (yes, even palms as small as mine), and is controlled via a d-pad, two face buttons and its unique, standout feature, the crank. But inside this dinky yellow wafer, the spirit of PC gaming has never been stronger. It’s there in its eclectic first season of indie games, a series of 24 titles that not only delight in the minutiae of its hardware but are delivered weekly for free in batches of two direct to…

In-depth interview with Foxdrop: ‘I sometimes wonder whether I’m a worse LoL caster now than when I started out, because I focus on fixing my faults rather than what made me a good caster in the first place: being kind of cheeky, kind of dumb, and very English!’

Image credit: Lolesports Flickr In the vast world of League of Legends (LoL) streamers and personalities, few are as synonymous with the British scene as Dan ‘Foxdrop’ Wyatt. The well-known streamer, jungler and content creator has also made his name as a caster after making his ESL Prem debut in early 2017, and casting the old EU LCS, to the NLC, EU Masters and the LEC. Known for his jolly persona, witty remarks and on-screen antics, it’s never a dull day when Foxdrop is given the casting reins. By Dom Peppiatt, Sunday, 20 September 2020 15:17 GMT A new update coming to Untitled Goose Game brings co-op mode to 2019’s biggest indie hit on September 23. To whet your appetite for new goose-based mayhem, developer House House has detailed the game’s second playable goose. In a tweet, the developer showed off a short video that featured two geese honking at each other. Have You Played… Untitled Goose Game?

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time. The majority of us try to get through life without any unnecessary conflict. It’s a hassle that most can do without. That’s why I love games that allow for some tomfoolery. All the fun of being a bit mean, without any of the consequence. Although, I should say that I’m not talking about choosing the renegade option in Mass Effect; I’m talking about some wholesome rascality, like snatching a sock from the clothesline of an old lady or swiping spectacles from…
