Classic FPS Star Wars: Dark Forces has gotten a well deserved glow-up

It’s okay everyone, call off the search. I’ve found my Christmas game. LucasArts shooter Star Wars: Dark Forces has been given a modern makeover by The Force Engine project, and they’ve just released version 1.0 to the public after three years’ work. During that time, the team’s reverse engineered Dark Forces and added a whole bunch of mod-cons, such as support for modern high resolutions and mouse-look. The director of Moon and Warcraft is still dreaming of making a movie version of Full Throttle, the classic LucasArts adventure game about rough ‘n’ tough bikers and lovers. A year ago Duncan Jones released a tentative script he banged out in a fit of procrastination, and in 2022 he’s still thinking of the smell of asphalt. Video Game History Foundation begins new preservation project starting with Monkey Island cut content

The gaming history buffs of the Video Game History Foundation have unveiled a new project called the “video game source project” for preserving content from game development. They’re kicking it off by going to the human source of The Secret Of Monkey Island. On October 30th they’ll be hosting an event where Ron Gilbert, one of the original creators, will dig into cut content and stories from yon old adventure game. (more…)
