Twitch’s Official Channel Won’t Stream Nintendo’s E3 Direct Due To Co-Streaming Restrictions

Later today, Nintendo will broadcast its Direct for this year’s E3. Leading up to the event, the Kyoto-based game company has issued a request on its Japanese Twitter account: Do not co-stream our presentation. “Please refrain from mirroring Nintendo Direct footage and sound during the Nintendo Direct livestream,” the tweet reads. Nintendo will allow simultaneous viewing (reactions, basically) without mirroring—and thus, without streaming sound or footage.Once the presentation is finished, Nintendo has okayed the uploading of clips, but with the caveat that the use of footage and sound follows the company’s previously released guidelines. In Japan, Nintendo clearly does not want…

Twitch’s new hot tub category gives rescued sea otters a new home

After much controversy, upset, and harrassment over ‘hot tub streamers’ who host Twitch streams in swimwear from paddling pools, the company have come to a solution: split them into their own separate category. So yes, they are allowed, but they need to be in the right place. If someone’s streaming Minecraft in their togs, you shouldn’t see them unless you’re looking for them. Far more importantly than all that, through this category I have learned that an animal rescue centre have a Twitch channel broadcasting sea otters playing, sleeping, eating, and being all-round adorable. Twitch Isn’t Overwhelmed With Far-Right Extremists, But It Does Have A Big Misinformation Problem

Twitch’s relationship with misinformation is complicated. In 2020, platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter grappled with their outsized roles in the creation and cultivation of conspiracy movements like QAnon. Misinformation troubled Twitch in a different way, but the platform emerged curiously un-plagued by a comparable extremism epidemic. Now, midway through 2021, Twitch is finally gearing up to combat misinformation.

Twitch’s Latest Sensation Is A Stop Sign Where No One Stops

A blue car pulls up to a stop sign. Against all odds, it briefly, miraculously comes to a halt. Twitch chat goes ballistic. Numerous people spam “I was here” as pogchamp emotes flood in. This is Stopsigncam, a Twitch channel that suddenly has over 125,000 followers even though it’s just a camera trained on a single neighborhood intersection in Salem, Massachusetts.

Livestream Of Boulder Mass Shooting Raises Questions About What YouTube And Twitch Should Allow

Yesterday, a shooter opened fire at the King Soopers store in Boulder, Colorado and killed 10 people. Not long after the attack, a streamer, Dean Schiller, arrived on the scene and broadcast to an audience that topped out at nearly 30,000 concurrent viewers. The resulting video has been viewed over 650,000 times. Despite the visible presence of bodies, YouTube has decided against taking it down. Twitch, however, has said it will remove any such footage.

A Twitch Streamer Unearthed Cards From A Fake ’90s Pokémon Ripoff, And Fans Are Pretending The Series Was Real All Along [UPDATE]

There’s elaborate performance art, and then there’s what renowned Twitch jester Jerma did over the weekend. In a truly inspired stream, he parodied the recent Pokémon booster pack craze by going out into the Nevada desert and pretending to excavate a chest seemingly full of unopened Pokémon cards from 1997. They turned out to be something different: Grotto Beasts. Spoiler: Grotto Beasts is not and never has been a real series, but that hasn’t stopped Jerma’s community from taking the joke and running with it to the furthest ends of the internet.

You can watch Cyberpunk 2077 on Twitch now

While Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t launch until tonight, media folks given early access now have permission to stream the game. Maybe it’d help you decide which character origin you want to pick? Consider it a low-tech version of the game’s braindances, only with a laugh track. (more…)
