Cancelled Google Stadia projects reportedly include episodic Kojima Productions horror game

By Dom Peppiatt, Sunday, 28 February 2021 12:07 GMT Reports detailing the situation behind Google Stadia‘s canceled projects shed a little light on a reported Kojima Productions episodic horror game.A VGC report has revealed that Google was talking to Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima about making an “episodic horror game” for the ill-fated cloud streaming platform, Google Stadia. The game may be what Kojima was referring to in Summer 2020 when he vented his chagrin after a game that he’d been working on was killed. The outspoken designer and director told a Japanese publication a “major” project had been canceled….

Hideo Kojima’s book is getting an English translation

By Stephany Nunneley, Saturday, 20 February 2021 18:21 GMT Hideo Kojima’s book, The Gifted Gene and My Lovable Memes, is getting an English translation. Originally published in Japan back in 2019, Kojima’s book features essays written by Kojima where he discusses his inspirations. In English, the book will be titled The Creative Gene: How books, movies, and music inspired the creator of Death Stranding and Metal Gear Solid. To be published by Viz (thanks, Polygon), the book will also include chats between the author and musician/actor Gen Hoshino, whose song Pop Virus appears Death Stranding. Here’s the book’s description: “Ever since…

Kojima Productions confirm they’re working on a new project

It’s no surprise that Kojima Productions are working on a new project, seeing as Death Stranding came out almost a year ago and Hideo Kojima has muttered about new things for a while, but it is now official. Today they declared “a new project is in development” and put out a hiring call for new staff. No hint of what the new game is, mind. I dream of: a Death Stranding sequel where an adult BB carries a now-elderly Sam back across America, strapped to his chest. Come on Hideo, you know you love echoing stories and characters. (more…)

Someone caught a cryptobiote up close in Death Stranding and I am so confused

Death Stranding has quite a robust photo mode and someone has completely taken advantage of it by getting this absurd shot of a cryptobiote. When Sam first encounters Fragile at the beginning of Death Stranding, she pulls out a cryptobiote and chows down. I didn’t think about it much – it’s a strange, floaty bug/land-based marine-looking animal thing, and this is the world of Death Stranding, where nothing really makes sense anyway. So I thought, sure, why wonder what on earth is going on with cryptobiotes when they’re not even close to being the weirdest thing in Death Stranding. But now…

The completely true and not made up superhero origin story of famous video game dudes

Hideo Kojima recently revealed that he was stung by “at least ten bees all at once” before becoming a video game designer. This is the Japanese creator famous for the Metal Gear Solid series. It’s no coincidence that Metal Gear Solid 3 features a boss battle called The Pain: a man infected by a parasite that allows him to secrete a pheromone that controls insects, including – you guessed it – bees. What I’m saying is, Kojima is basically Spider-Man and being stung by “at least ten bees all at once” is his superhero origin story. That got me thinking,…

Hideo Kojima was stung by “at least 10 bees all at once” before becoming a game designer

Revered game designer Hideo Kojima recently said that he was stung by “at least 10 bees all at once” while working as a live-in gardener during university. Kojima recently shared a tweet published by the official Kojima Productions Twitter account, which has been posting a list of anecdotes from the veteran game designer titled “Hideo’s musings.” One such musing described some of the odd jobs Kojima used to do in order to earn some money during university. His first part-time job involved filming wedding ceremonies. He reckons that taught him what it was like to be, in his words, a “salary…
