Guild win fifth major trophy as Fortnite player Hen takes first place in the FNCS EU final

British/Lithuanian professional Fortnite player Henrik ‘Hen’ Mclean achieved first place in the Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) EU final yesterday. The player, representing UK esports organisation Guild Esports, took home home half of the tournament’s $300,000 top prize with his duo partner, Serbian player Aleksa ‘Queasy’ Cvetkovic. Guild Esports makes education move after posting a loss in its first full year of operations, wants to be ‘the largest provider of school-based learning for esports through 2022’

Guild Esports, the UK-based esports organisation linked with David Beckham, has outlined some new education-based plans in a new financial report published this morning. The company generated revenues of £1.9m during its first full financial year (from October 1st 2020 to September 30th 2021), but posted a loss before tax of £8.8m (up from £2.7m made the year prior). Guild’s non-executive chairman Derek Lew said the loss “reflects a major investment in operational infrastructure, esports teams, the Guild Academy, content creation and the development of Guild merchandising”, an investment that he says is “fundamental to Guild’s business model and long-term strategy”….

Shoreditch seems to be becoming a magnet for top UK-based esports organisations – Fnatic moved there in 2017, Excel in 2021, and now Guild Esports will be opening an office there. Today Guild Esports – the org backed by David Beckham – has announced it has signed a 10-year property lease for the creation of its global esports Guild Academy and corporate headquarters in London’s Shoreditch area. Bitstamp has become Guild’s official cryptocurrency exchange partner with the signing of a three-year global sponsorship deal worth £4.5m. It’s the largest sponsorship deal secured by Guild Esports in its history and will generate annual revenues of £1.5m over the three-year period. It commences on January 29th 2022. The new team, Guild X, comprises Vivian Mae Schilling ‘Roxi’ (DE), Yağmur Gündüz ‘Smurfette’ (TUR), Anastasiya Rival’evna ‘Glance’ (RUS), Benfakir Sophia ‘Kim’ (FRA) and team captain Klaudia Beczkiewicz ‘Cinnamon’ (USA).
