Final Fantasy Theatrhythm Final Bar Line review: Long-awaited Switch and PS4 ensemble strikes a chord

The latest Switch and PS4 FF rhythm game creates some series high notes – but it’s not a totally flawless performance. By the time your favourite band’s fourth album has come around, you may know what to expect from them – they’ve got all that experimental stuff out their system, they know what their strengths are, they know how to write a crowd-pleaser, and there’s still enough creative fuel left in the tank to surprise you. But maybe, just maybe, your pop-rock favourites have used all their gimmicks up at this point, and what’s left is a sonically pleasing, perfectly…

Final Fantasy 16 could be as great as the golden era FF games – if it fixes the mistakes of the modern era

The golden era of Final Fantasy games has gone, but the latest entry in the long-running series has what it takes to tickle the nostalgia glands. For a five-year stretch at the turn of millennium, the Final Fantasy series released an unprecedented run of indisputable JRPG bangers. Four games in a row – Final Fantasy 7 to Final Fantasy 10 – each its own contained adventure with a bespoke world of a particular aesthetic and vision. Uniting them all was the sheer bombast of their productions, massive disc-spanning epics filled with bleeding edge graphics and sweeping narratives. They were true…

Wielding a Buster Sword controller for Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a workout

JRPGs can be grindy affairs at the best of times, but imagine playing through one while actually swinging about Cloud Strife’s cumbersome giant blade. Custom controller maker Super Louis 64’s done just that, crafting a Buster Sword that lets him play through Final Fantasy 7 Remake in true Cloud style. When he shared a clip of his antics on Twitter, Super Louis insisted the whole game is playable using the big knife. The honorary Soldier says he’s hoping to have a full video of his time spent pretending to be Cloud up on his YouTube channel today. Read more

It looks like the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters are finally coming to consoles, after being exclusive to Steam for a year. You would think that some simple remasters of the first six Final Fantasy games would be a shoo-in for at the very least a Nintendo Switch release. That would be a good business decision from Square Enix, but this is also the company that is insisting on pushing forward with blockchain nonsense,…

We know the game is set in the land of Valisthea where six factions are almost to the point of conflict due to…

Square Enix dive headfirst into the uncharted waters of blockchain gaming

Japanese publishers Square Enix are taking more steps to implement the controversial blockchain technology in their games. Squenix have teamed with blockchain company Oasys, who describe themselves as “environmentally-friendly”. This is because of their less energy-intensive “proof-of-stake” mechanism compared to “proof-of-work” methods such as those used in Bitcoin mining. Oasys’s plans fits with Squenix’s intention to develop tokenised economies built on blockchain in their future games. Read more

Issue with downloading Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade bundle through PS Plus has been fixed

Turns out it was just a bug. Earlier this week, Final Fantasy 7 Remake owners on PS5 with PlayStation Plus Extra were having issues downloading the Intergrade version of the game that includes the Intermission DLC. Made available as part of July’s lineup, Intergrade comes bundled with the Intermission DLC by default. Only for some reason, neither the base game nor the option to download just the DLC was available for some. According to many PlayStation users online, the base game was listed as not available if they already owned Final Fantasy 7 Remake for either PS4 or PS5, whether…

There were approximately 1.5 billion tweets about gaming on Twitter during the first half of the year. So, there’s been lots to talk, and tweet, about. That being said, Twitter has collected data on some of the most talked about games on the platform during the first…
