The 2022 video game release schedule is getting worse every single week

You know what it’s like at the beginning of a new year. You’re all excited about the many tens and hundreds of new video games coming out over the next 12 months, and you go and make a big list of all the ones you’re really looking forward to. We did exactly that back in January of this year, coming up with a list of our 43 most anticipated games of 2022. Lately, though, it seems we can’t go a single day without word of yet another game being delayed, whether it’s just by a couple of months, or that…

Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time Remake development jumps to Ubisoft Montréal

Remember there was a Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time Remake that was meant to be coming out in January last year? No? Well, the game’s development team have taken to Twitter to announce that Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time Remake will be delayed indefinitely, which seems oddly fitting considering the game is about messing with time. It was meant to launch this year, but the game’s already been delayed indefinitely once before. Read more

Several esports casters, production staff and other talent have been left unpaid after a new CSGO tournament was suddenly postponed halfway through proceedings. Season 1 of the Hardcore Gaming Masters (HCG), a new tournament with a supposed €180,000 prize pool, was indefinitely postponed over funding issues. The LAN finals, due to take place in Portugal, were cancelled and organisers hope to play these out online at some point. However, esports talent have been left unpaid, frustrated and looking for other work after booking the LAN final dates into their diaries. Fair enough. Read more

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 delayed into December to try to “live up to the expectations”

Given that we’ve still only seen scraps of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 after years of development and with launch supposedly mere months away, I suppose it’s not a surprise to hear the game is delayed. The developers, GSC Game World today announced that they’ve pushed the launch back by seven months, giving the first-person explore-o-shooter a new release date of the 8th of December. It’s the usual perfectly sensible reason: they want it to be good, and they think it needs more time to be good. Read more

XCOM studio’s Marvel superhero game Midnight Suns is delayed

XCOM studio Firaxis have announced a delay for Marvel’s Midnight Suns, their turn-based tactics game in the BAM! BIF! POW! world of Marvel superheroes. Previously due in March 2022, it’s now pushed back into the second half of 2022. I say “previously”; the game was only announced two months ago. Sounds like someone had a serious rethink about the state of the project. But if it needs the time, it’s good that it’s getting the time. Read more

Shadow Warrior 3 delayed into next year

The fast-paced, fast-talking violence of Shadow Warrior 3 will not arrive this year after all, now pushed back into “early 2022.” Devolver Digital and developers Flying Wild Hog explain it’s the usual reason: they want more time to make the FPS good, yeah? A good reason. For now, you can watch the new trailer announcing the delay. Read more

Kena: Bridge Of Spirits has been delayed to September

Gorgeous forest adventure Kena: Bridge Of Spirits has been delayed again, moving from an August release date into September. This is the second time Kena has been delayed – originally it was supposed to come out in 2020. Alas, as with many games last year, the pandemic made sure that didn’t happen. Thankfully, this new delay isn’t a huge wait though, and the developers at Ember Labs say they just need more time to polish the game. Read more

Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time Remake delayed to 2022

Apparently something has gone wrong with time, because Ubisoft have confirmed that the Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time Remake is now due in 2022. Considering the remake of the pleasing time-rewinding stab-o-platfomer was supposedly three months away from launch when they announced it in 2020, yeesh, someone at Ubi must have dropped their magical hourglass. So no, they won’t be showing it at their E3 showcase this week either. Read more

Arkane’s Deathloop delayed into September

Six weeks before they were due to release Deathloop, Arkane have announced they’re delaying the timeloop FPS by four months. Previously expected on the 21st of May, it’s now pushed back to September 14th. Sounds like the usual reasons: this past year (and counting) presented unusual challenges, and they want more time to make it good. Which is all perfectly fair. I’ll still be here, happily waiting for a new game from the studio which brought us Dishonored and Prey. Read more

Alas, we’ll have to wait an extra four months for the new cooperative zombie-smashing shooter from Left 4 Dead creators Turtle Rock Studios. They announced today that Back 4 Blood‘s release is delayed from the June 22nd to October 12th. Making something huge and complicated is tricky during a global pandemic, y’know. But on the bright side, we will get to play some part of Back 4 Blood this summer in an open beta test. Read more
