Pentiment and medieval strategy game Inkulinati combine for the perfect video game crossover

The perfect video game crossover doesn’t exi… Oh wait, what’s that? Ink-based strategy indie Inkulinati is crossing over with who? The other game inspired by medieval manuscripts of course: Pentiment. This comes courtesy of Inkulinati’s first major content update, St. Francis And Friends (out now), and it’s beautiful enough to crack your repressed childhood excitement. Read more

Intriguing medieval tactics ’em up Inkulinati launches Jan 31st

I can’t think of a better place for turn-based fights than in the margins of medieval manuscripts. There’s a wealth of weirdness to draw on, and Inkulinati seems admirably willing to dip its quill into messed-up cats and donkeys playing double-ended trumpets. We’ve been waiting a while for it, but we’ll only have to wait a little longer, as developers Yaza Games have just announced they’ll be launching on Steam Early Access on January 31st. They’ve also sketched out a new demo to tide us over, and I’ve enjoyed my little poke at it. Read more

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum pushed back ‘by a few months’ for polish

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will not arrive in September as initially planned, but this delay announcement seems off. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has been delayed. The action game was set for launch this September, but publisher Nacon announced that it won’t hit this date. Surprsingly, Nacon didn’t say how long the delay is going to be. The company simply said it will be “a few months”, which is a little unusual. With that said, Nacon promised an update with a more solid release date in the near future. The reason for the delay is the very…

Shadow Tactics’ standalone expansion Aiko’s Choice will lunge this December

Shadow Tactics was one of the most pleasant surprises of the past five years, establishing Mimimi as ones to watch before Desperados 3 established them as masters of tactical sneak ’em ups. Now the German developer is returning to their samurai roots with the standalone expansion Aiko’s Choice. Announced back in March, it now has a release window: December. Read more

GTA 2-inspired Glitchpunk has early access in its sights

Top-down and totally OTT shooter Glitchpunk is aiming for an August 11th early access release date. I spotted it just before the Steam Game Fastival a few months ago, and was surprised at how grafting a Grand Theft Auto 2-style action game with hacking appealed to me. My memories of GTA 2 are so fast-paced that I get out of breath just remembering it, so stopping to do some nefarious and slow-paced activities seems like a perfect tweak. Read more

Warpips is a tug-of-war strategy game from some Subnautica devs

I’m often too lazy and tired to learn full fat strategy games these days, but I still long to make tiny men do my bidding. Ed’s too tall for me to get my kicks at work, so I turn to microstrategy games to scratch the itch. Warpips seems to fit my needs. It’s a tug-of-war strategy game that’s just entered early access, in which you build a squad, spawn units, and push towards an enemy’s base without much direct control over your units themselves. I’ve played it for half an hour and had a good time, and you can see…

Hidden Deep is a physics horror game inspired by The Thing

I might like Hidden Deep more if it wasn’t for the monsters. It’s a 2D game about descending into caverns beneath the ocean and using physics, ropes, and gadgets to chart your way through. This is a game I strongly want to play. But then, there are also terrible, gristly beasts that will rip you and your squad into chunks, and I’m a giant wuss. If you’re braver than I, there’s a demo you can play now, and a recent trailer below. Read more
