Neon White is part demon parkour game, part dating sim

Neon White sounds like a lot. It’s a speedrunning first-person shooter where you use decks of cards that represent weapons to stop demons invading heaven. It also has dating sim aspects where you can chat and have a nice time with the other Neons (the demon slayers you’re sort of working with). Better yet, it’s made by the developers of Donut County, and designer Ben Esposito tells me that massive tonal change was because he wanted to go “apeshit”. Read more

Consuming babies for a lab full of snakes, and other oddities

I am simply a normal human. Wriggling on my belly, dragging my sole brain cell through the dirt in search of food while snakes watch with scientific curiosity. Soon, I will have many thoughts, but I’ve many sandwiches to eat and plenty of goblins to grow before that day comes. So goes Biodome II, the first of six bizarre short experiments released this week by LA indie collective Glitch City in a bundle full of human pinball, fire trains and massively multiplayer online cubes. Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time. Donut County is like Katamari Damacy, but tidier. Instead of rolling everything up into an ever-increasing ball of mess, you’re sucking everything underground until the surface is bare. As an expanding hole, you eat bricks, chairs, cars, until eventually you’re able to gobble up entire houses. And who doesn’t love some tasty brickwork for their tea? (more…)
