Disco Elysium has added dyslexia-friendly fonts for those million words

Detective RPG Disco Elysium is not short on words, and now that text is a little more inviting. A free update yesterday added the option to display text in fonts which are intended to be easier to read for people with dyslexia. The Accessible Games Database helps find games with the features you need

Accessibility options for games, big and small, have become a more frequent topic of conversation in the last few years. Even just recently, Destiny 2 is adding a full-auto mode while EA are sharing their accesibility feature patents. Depending on what features you need access to though, it can still be a chore to find out exactly what options a game will support. The recently launched Accessible Games Database aims to help catalog games by a list of different accessibility features. It’s unpleasant that they patented them in the first place, and that companies even can patent features that make games more accessible, but I guess at least they are sharing now. Read more

Ghost of Tsushima, Ooblets, Rocket Arena, Paper Mario – do July’s big games pass the accessibility test?

July saw the release of another highly anticipated PS4 exclusive, Ghost of Tsushima. While it doesn’t come close to being the accessibility gem that last month’s The Last of us: Part 2, it and Ooblets have made for a pretty great July during a pandemic, with beautiful biomes to explore and dance battles to be had when many of us are still stuck indoors. Ghost of Tsushima took some time to grow on me with Sucker Punch’s decision to tie navigation to watching the wind blow. When I reviewed it on launch day, I still wasn’t a fan. I wasn’t…
