F1 Esports Series sets new viewer records again

Organisers behind the 2021 F1 Esports Series presented by Aramco say the tournament has broken viewership and engagement records again. The full series, which ran throughout 2021 and was delivered once again by UK-based esports and gaming company Gfinity, apparently achieved more than 23m views across digital platforms, a year-on-year increase of 103%. For 2021, on the digital and TV front, the F1 Esports Series’ flagship event, the Pro Championship amassed 13.8m views, representing a 47% increase from 2020. Guild Esports makes education move after posting a loss in its first full year of operations, wants to be ‘the largest provider of school-based learning for esports through 2022’

Guild Esports, the UK-based esports organisation linked with David Beckham, has outlined some new education-based plans in a new financial report published this morning. The company generated revenues of £1.9m during its first full financial year (from October 1st 2020 to September 30th 2021), but posted a loss before tax of £8.8m (up from £2.7m made the year prior). Guild’s non-executive chairman Derek Lew said the loss “reflects a major investment in operational infrastructure, esports teams, the Guild Academy, content creation and the development of Guild merchandising”, an investment that he says is “fundamental to Guild’s business model and long-term strategy”….

Amazon University Esports reports record numbers in UK/Ireland Winter 2021 Season, with more students and societies participating

Record numbers of university students took part in the Winter 2021 season of Amazon University Esports in the UK and Ireland, which is run by NUEL and GGTech. More than 1,150 teams of students from 105 universities around the UK and Ireland competed weekly against each other in a range of esports games, including League of Legends, Valorant, CSGO and Overwatch. That’s up from 900 teams the year prior, with signups for the Valorant tournament more than doubling year-on-year. UK Fortnite star Kyle ‘Mongraal’ Jackson is the most talked-about esports player on Twitter, the social media company has announced. The 17-year-old Brit, who represents FaZe Clan and has more than 2m followers on Twitter, 4.5m subscribers on YouTube and more than 5m followers on Twitch, is the talk of the town. He’s topped a list of the most talked-about esports athletes on 2021 posted by Twitter, ahead of fellow Fortnite players Bugha (USA) and Benjyfishy (UK) in second and third place respectively. LVP reveals 2021 viewer numbers for tournaments including LoL Spanish Superliga, the best audience figures in its history, after Fnatic shows off new TQ ERL branding

Spanish-language esports organisation LVP has posted its best audience figures in its 11+ year history. By year-end, the company registered 69.8m cumulative viewers across all of its broadcasts, 24% more than in 2020(56m). There were more than 35.8m hours viewed overall, a rise of 45% compared to 2020. The League of Legends Superliga, Spain’s European Regional League (ERL), drew 13m viewers in 2021, 37% more than the data registered for 2020. NSE Winter 2021 university esports winners announced: Warwick, Staffordshire and Loughborough named the UK’s best this year

National Student Esports (NSE) has announced the winners of the British University Esports Championship Winter 2021, as well as the top universities in esports this year. 98 universities are fighting to be crowned Esports University of the Year, which will happen at the end of spring 2022. And the same two are leading the pack: the University of Warwick in first place and Staffordshire University in second. Loughborough University rose to third place after finishing sixth last winter. The Great Britain women’s Dota 2 team have secured a second-place finish at the Global Esports Games (GEG) 2021 medal event in Singapore. Team BDS win Rocket League RLCS 21/22 Fall Major after UK orgs exit playoffs

Swiss esports organisation Team BDS have emerged triumphant at the Rocket League RLCS 21/22 Fall Major in Sweden today, after beating NRG 4-1 and 4-3 in the grand final. Spanish player MaRc_By_8 and French players M0nkey M00n and Extra helped BDS take the $90,000 top prize and silence their doubters with a solid performance in the Fall Major. In the playoffs stage, BDS beat Complexity 4-2 in the quarter final and UK team SMPR Esports 4-2 in the semi-final before facing NRG in the final. The League of Legends subreddit has been named the second most popular gaming subreddit this year, according to new data from official Reddit Recap 2021 data. The r/leagueoflegends LoL subreddit was pipped to the post by r/genshinimpact, which took the number one spot, while r/gaming, r/rpclipsgta and r/ffxiv were the third, fourth and fifth most popular gaming subreddits this year. The most upvoted posts in the LoL subreddit were the Worlds prediction tournament and AOC’s Baron snipe (see the top five gaming posts below). Blast Premier CSGO World Final to be held without a live audience

The Blast Premier World Final will be the latest top esports event to take place without a live audience when it gets underway later this month. The CSGO LAN finals will feature eight big-name teams and be held at the Blast Studio in Copenhagen, Denmark, from December 15th to 19th 2021.
