Final Fantasy XVI producer would like to bring it to PC “at some point”

Final Fantasy 16 is looking fab according to the latest round of previews, but that doesn’t do us much good if it doesn’t come to PC. The JRPG sequel is a six-month exclusive on PlayStation 5 and the PC version doesn’t have a release date. During a recent interview, producer Naoki Yoshida said that it definitely won’t come to PC as soon as those six months are up, but that they “would like to release it eventually.” Read more

Somebody tossed at least $100K of Magic: The Gathering cards in a landfill

Audio player loading… This past weekend a Reddit user going by LATIN0 posted an image of what they estimated to be six pallets of Magic: The Gathering card (opens in new tab)s that had been dumped at their local landfill. What would be a treasure trove to a dedicated player was taken as a curiosity by LATIN0, who only knew the game existed from a decade of Reddit use. So they snapped a picture, dumped their trash, and moved on with their life. Later, they posted the quirky picture to Reddit alongside a few more pictures (opens in new tab)…

U.S. Govt Outlines Requirements for CHIPS Act Subsidies

The U.S. government is set to provide American chipmakers $52 billion in funding in a bid to strengthen the local semiconductor industry and lay the groundwork for its revival in America. But to get billions of dollars from the government, companies will have to agree to a variety of terms, which include not expanding their manufacturing in China, sharing profits, and providing affordable childcare. U.S. chipmakers that receive funds from the CHIPS fund must agree not to expand their production capacity in China for 10 years after they get the money, reports the Financial Times. This is not the only measure designed…

Over 230 familiar Pokemon not present in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be encountered in the DLC

When Nintendo announced the upcoming expansions for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, it confirmed that some familiar Poke friends return – 230 in fact. These Pokemon will appear in Part 1: The Teal Mask and Part 2: The Indigo Disk, none of which have appeared in either game. Nintendo has decided not to provide a list of the returning Pokemon, as it wants you to find out for yourself by playing the game. Nvidia’s 531.18 Driver Adds RTX Video Super Resolution Support

Nvidia has released (opens in new tab) a new Game Ready driver for its GeForce graphics card users. Probably the most important thing Nvidia’s version 531.18 WHQL driver adds for content consumers is support for RTX Video Super Resolution. There are slimmer pickings for gamers, with just two headlining additions: some additional DLSS 3 optimizations for Atomic Heart, and support for The Finals closed beta. However, there are some worthwhile looking bug fixes for popular games and Adobe apps.(Image credit: Nvidia)We provided some VSR testing and details earlier today, but put simply, VSR adds AI upscaling and enhancement smarts to…

Xbox boss Phil Spencer somehow managed to 100% Vampire Survivors while managing the biggest videogame acquisition in history

Audio player loading… Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer can’t be too concerned about how the Activision acquisition (opens in new tab) is going, because he’s dedicated over ten days of his life to getting every single achievement in Vampire Survivors, including the ones in its Legacy of the Moonspell DLC. Spencer ticked off the Victory Sword achievement—held by a mere 4.74% of Xbox players at time of writing—last Sunday evening, thereby ascending to the pantheon of S-Rank Vampire Survivors players and finally proving himself better than me at playing videogames. Which was probably his intention. All current achievements completed. Fantastic game…

Phantom Brigade review: entertaining mech battles carry a toothless campaign

I’m still not entirely sure if I’m playing Phantom Brigade right. According to its internal clock, battles usually take less than a minute. That time is divided into five-second chunks during which you’re shown what the enemy will do, and must use that to coordinate your own mechs, placing their orders on a visible timeline. You finish your turn by hitting a button that makes everyone go at once for a few explosive moments. In practice, behind those few seconds are an eternity of theorising, testing, and tweaking. There’s probably a metaphor in there somewhere about writing, video editing, or…

Honkai: Star Rail is a stylish turn-based JRPG, with very similar energy to Genshin Impact

Over the last few weeks I’ve spent a number of hours with Honkai: Star Rail‘s closed beta, and it certainly seems that MiHoYo’s upcoming free-to-play RPG is hoping to capture a similar audience to Genshin Impact’s. Star Rail’s turn-based battles and JRPG leanings might be a bit of a departure from Genshin’s open-world adventuring, but it’s definitely, 100%, without a doubt, anime as heck. Oh, and very gacha. There’s a lot of currencies. So many currencies. Still, I think it’s shaping up to be a decent time. Read more

Never mind the Arkhamverse, the only good Batman game is Assassin’s Creed 2

Suicide Squad’s descent into live-service hell only accelerates an inevitable process of diminishing returns. So, the long awaited next foray into the Arkhamverse, Suicide Squad, looks like a pretty miserable experience from what we’ve seen so far. A screenshot doing the rounds on Twitter puts the spotlight on a dreary looking set of stat modifiers that reads like a tech manual for transistors. The fact that it’s a live-service looter shooter with no true single-player mode (‘co-op with bots’ doesn’t count), and the horrifying red flag of requiring a constant internet connection to run, shows just how far Rocksteady has…

14 years later Resident Evil 5 finally removes Games for Windows Live and restores splitscreen

Audio player loading… Out of nowhere Capcom has released an update for the Steam version (opens in new tab) of Resident Evil 5, released in 2009, the main function of which is to strip-out the zombified corpse of Games for Windows Live. The latter was an ill-fated online service that linked PCs into Microsoft’s Live services—launched in 2007 and discontinued in 2014—which mainly served to annoy users with its lack of functionality and compatibility problems. Indeed, a theme in the aftermath of its closure was games one-by-one updating to remove the service.Well Capcom took their sweet time (this is the…
